You would think that people who appear on apologetic and atheist discussion boards could bring some interesting, unique and intelligent arguments to the table. Unfortunately this is usually not the case. Christians simply quote threats and insults from their holy hoax book at me while exulting in their hatred of reason.
Here is by far the DUMBEST argument I have ever HAD to debate... "The Thesaurus Argument".
The Christian begins her tirade by condemning me and showing her open contempt for reason.

See what happens when you handle the bible while you don't believe? Point of advice, stop reading the Bible, it's not for you and has nothing good to say to you or about you. Good shot, huh. And here you probably thought I was going to argue with you. Not at all. I am more than happy to leave you where you are. God only wants people who want Him, so if you don't, Christianity is not for you. Bye! Heb. 11:6 For without faith it is impossible to please Him. Those who seek God must believe that He is, and that He is a Rewarder for those who seek Him earnestly. |

Oh.... that's so very, very sad and unfortunately typical of Christian hostility to reason. Now think for a minute. If you were born in the Sudan would you be telling me not to touch the Koran? If you were born a Hindi would you be telling me not to touch "The Bahagavad Gita"? If you were a Mormon would you be telling me not to touch "The Book of Mormon"? Could you tell me with all honesty that you would have the critical reasoning necessary to break out of a cult or false religion. Would you just accept whatever you're told and hold your hands over your ears when presented with evidence to the contrary? I hope you don't. I hope you are not so indoctrinated that your human right of reason and thought hasn't been crushed under the weight of this ancient mythology. I thoroughly hope that you reason this out enough where eventually you'll see this superstition for what it is and drop it. Honestly, when I dropped Christianity it was like a hundred pounds of chains fell off my body! I want that for all people lost in religion! Oh - btw - your response is pretty common and identical to the response of the Roman Catholic Church to Martin Luther. Luther shows up for what he thinks is going to be a high-spirited debate and gets hit with one word over and over - RECANT. Not a real surprise I'm afraid. |

Try this one: My Thesaurus says "gospel" and "truth" are synonyms. Your turn. |

Wh-Wh-WHAT KIND OF ARGUMENT IS THAT? I'm certain you can do better, please try again. |

CHRISTIAN
That's okay, I knew you couldn't answer that one, so I forgive you for dodging that piece of rock hard evidence from a neutral reference source. You're just like all atheists, you don't like facts. |

I can't believe I actually have to debate this... The term Gospel has become a colloquialism that yes, is synonymous to Truth. SO WHAT? Accoding to this:
'Dope' is a synonym for truth too. This must mean that all Dope dealers tell the truth and are above reproach. After all if a colloqualism appears in a Thesaurus then apparently I can use that as scientific evidence! What the heck was I thinking spending years researching original texts when all I had to do was look up a colloquialism in The Holy Thesaurus! Note that 'Gospel' didn't appear in that online version of the Thesaurus so maybe MY HOLY THESAURUS is smarter than YOUR HOLY THESAURUS! YOU CAN DO BETTER - TRY AGAIN! |

"Dope" being a slang expression meaning truth, as in, Give me the dope on what's up with the scene. To change the definition into "dope" meaning drugs is a logical fallacy called "Equivocation." Logical fallacies are only used by people who have no real argument. And the reason you have no real argument, is because facts aren't subject to debate. The grass is green, gravity causes things to fall, oranges are orange, the gospels are true. Live with it. |

See what happens when you handle The Dictionary while you don't think? Point of advice, stop reading The Dictionary, it's not for you and has nothing good to say to you or about you. The Dictionary only wants people who want It, so if you don't, The Dictionary is not for you. Templar 11:6 For whomsoever quoteth dictionary definitions instead of using research, facteths or argumenteths - to them shall be given the sour tangerines of mourning. |

Since when is the dictionary definition of a word not factual? It's a neutral reference work. As I said, like all atheists, you can't handle facts. |

1) The Dictionary is not a Paper Pope: You CAN'T take a dictionary and quote from it like it's some kind of paper pope giving truth that cannot be refuted. I would bet that I could pick up a dictionary in Jordan, look up Islam and get something along the lines of 'The TRUE religion started by the prophet Mohammed.' You would certainly claim (while sitting in a cafe in Jordan) that Islam was a false religion but then I would pick up a Jordanian dictionary and read you that definition. Would it be over? Would you just say - OH, Thou hast quoted the Holy Dictionary - ALL IS LOST? No, of course not - it's a DICTIONARY not a Holy Tome of all Truth! 2) Gospel/Truth is a colloquialism!
3) There are LOTS of Gospels
YOU CAN DO BETTER - STOP QUOTING DICTIONARIES AT ME! |

Webster's: Synonym 1: one of two or more words or expressions of the same language that have the same or nearly the same meaning in some or all senses. Thesaurus: A dictionary of synonyms Webster's Thesaurus, synonym for truth: "gospel." Whereupon John the atheist argues that dictionaries aren't some sort of holy book and besides a metaphor isn't real and how dare anyone take it for a fact. LOL. |

Answer this directly YES OR NO. Try, try to stay on topic and just answer this YES or NO. "The Gospel according to Mary" is TRUTH.... YES or NO. I'm keeping this debate to 4 lines - just answer it. |
|
CHRISTIAN
Oh no. I refuse to be in a discussion with dishonest and wilfully ignorant people. If you won't even accept a standard reference as factual, you're well beyond rationality and have gone way into la la land where anything means what you want it to mean, Alice. |
|
ME
No - YOU refuse to answer a simple question so obviously I'm right. If your all-knowing, holy thesaurus that is above all facts, evidence and research declareth from the throne of Peter that "Gospel" means truth then... Either "The Gospel according to Mary" is TRUTH despite the decision of the early Church or... "The Gospel according to Mary" is truly apocrypha therefore challenging the doctrine of the infallible thesaurus! You must realize at this point how LAME this choice of argument is - please LOOK UP AN ARGUMENT on the internet if you can't come up with one yourself. YOU CAN DO BETTER. TRY AGAIN. |

What part of "no" is it you fail to understand? My Bible states that unbelievers are in darkness and have lost all reasoning capacity, and nothing you have posted contradicts this. You are a complete waste of everybody's time here. |
