CEO Jehovah?

An exchange between a newly hired employee (Stacy) and the head of human resources (Eddy).

Eddy: Welcome to Life Inc. Stacy. I hope you have a long and wonderful career - now I'm going to have to ask you to choose a CEO. (Eddy pulls out about fifty folders arranging them in front of Stacy.)

Stacy: Choose a CEO? Why?

Eddy: Well the real CEO is expecting you to be a good employee and choose his folder over all the other CEOs that he claims do not exist.

Stacy: Oh, okay well then just tell me which one is the real CEO?

Eddy: No, no, no... then I'm interfering with your free will.

Stacy: Free will? A random choice is NOT free will! Okay then - my free will is that the REAL CEO appear in front of me or tell me which brochure is the right one.

Eddy: I'm sorry, it's not that easy. If he appeared before you or talked to you then that would be taking away...

Stacy: ...my IGNORANCE? Why is that a BAD thing?

Eddy: I was about to say "free will". If the real CEO appeared before you or did something to show that he was real then you wouldn't need to have faith in him.

Stacy: GOOD!! I'd rather KNOW that what I was doing was worthwhile - not just GUESSING! Okay - then what should I do?

Eddy: Oh - just do what everyone does and choose the CEO your parents chose.

Stacy: What if I'm wrong?

Eddy: Well, gee that all depends on which CEO ends up being right. If this one is the right CEO then you'll be split open and fed to maggots whereas if this one is right and you choose differently then you'll be left in the hell of a thousand knives - oh, over HERE is a REAL nasty one...

Stacy: Okay, okay, I get it! I'm supposed to randomly choose one CEO and work my whole life for him and if I choose wrong then he'll just split me open and devour me?

Eddy: That's free will.

Stacy: No, that's vicious, stupid, enforced ignorance! Of COURSE I want to work for the right CEO and a real CEO would know that. He wouldn't build this enormous organization and then throw away millions of employees who wanted to serve him just because he treasures ignorance! Any CEO who would act like that would be stupid, vicious or crazy and I can't imagine the creator of this organization being stupid, vicious or crazy. Hmmm... Maybe there is NO CEO, maybe this company is employee owned!

Eddy: (Stepping forward to shake Stacy's hand.) Congratulations.
