CARM Continued: 34 Prophecy and Wisdom
Well the author appears to be really impressed with Biblical Prophecy fulfillment. Let's take a look at his evidences shall we?
- Micah 5:1-2 - Jesus' Birthplace. Jesus was a lifetime resident of Nazareth with no proof that he was ever in Bethlehem. The supposed census that would've sent Jesus' parents to Bethlehem certainly never happened. Besides which Jesus does not fulfill the most important Messianic aspects of Micah which includes rescuing Israel from a culture that stopped existing 500 years before Jesus' birth. Micah DISPROVES Jesus not the other way around. MORE
- Isaiah 7:14- Born of a Virgin. I know it's been said many times and many ways but most fundys can't get this through their heads: The word is NOT the Hebrew word for virgin - it is the Hebrew word for Young Woman and besides which the prophecy is openly fulfilled in Isaiah 8. MORE
- Isaiah 53:3 - Rejected by his own People. First off - the subject of this imagery is NEVER refered to as a Messiah, Son of God, Great Prophet, King of Jews - he is ONLY refered to as God's servant and God's servant is IDENTIFIED six times in Isaiah as Israel. As an example: Isaiah 49:3 And said to me, “You are my servant, Israel, in whom I will be glorified.” Now let's look at this verse in the correctly translated Jewish edition: 3 People despised and avoided him, a man of pains, well acquainted with illness. Like someone from whom people turn their faces, he was despised; we did not value him. "Well acquainted with illness?" Why do the Christian Bibles say "grief" instead? The original Hebrew word is Choliy which means sickness and is always translated sickness so why would Christians translate it wrong? Because Jesus was NOT "acquainted with illness". What about the rest "People despised and avoided him." The PRIESTS despised him - he was loved by the people. Did he live to see his seed? Did he divide spoils with the mighty? Verse by verse this certainly does NOT refer to Jesus! HERE is my dissertation on the whole of Isaiah 53.
- Psalms 41:9 - Betrayed by a close friend. This is one of the most ridiculous of the so-called fulfilled prophecies! This Psalm (Psalms are NOT prophecies) CANNOT refer to Jesus! Verse 4: I said, LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee. The Psalm is about a man stuck in bed with an unidentified illness who has sinned against god and is praying to get better so he can kick ass! This sounds NOTHING like Jesus and it is the most extreme level of Chutzpah that anyone can use this verse for Jesus - you could just as easily lift a line from a script for "Desperate Housewives." HERE is my full disseration on Psalms 41.
- Psalms 22:16-18 - Hands and feet pierced. AGAIN Psalms are NOT prophecies and Psalms 22 CANNOT refer to Jesus! The character complains a lot that God will not talk to him which makes no sense if he, himself IS God. I do a full dissertation on Psalms 22 HERE.
- Psalms 16:10, 49:15 - Resurrection. Another Psalms "prophecy"? RIDICULOUS! 16:10 for you will not abandon me to Sh'ol, you will not let your faithful one see the Abyss. Notice I used the CORRECTLY translated Jewish Bible. The Christian Bibles say that the person will not see decay yet the Hebrew word, Shachath means pit, destruction or grave - NOT decay. Overall this is a pretty standard psalm - read the whole thing and if you know Psalms it will sound pretty unremarkable - the Psalmist expects Jehovah to save him from Hell. That's all. 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah. Notice: "My Soul" NOT a bodily resurrection, it is simply a man talking about being received in heaven! Isn't it pretty pathetic that Christians have to scavenge Psalms for anything that sounds REMOTELY like a resurrection? Surely if the most important event in human history actually occurred, the Son of God being tortured to death for sins and then Resurrected three days later we would find that in the Messianic prophecies!
He claims there are many more fulfilled prophecies by Jesus... BRING 'EM ON! Here's my dissertation on those ridiculous Jesus prophecies. What about OT prophecies? They are either written after the fact or are just plain wrong! As one example Ezekial 29:10-12 prophesied a victory by Nebuchadnezzar against the Egyptians. In 568 BCE Nebuchadrezzar tried to conquer Egypt and Egypt survived with no apparent damage. Aahmes ruled for another generation over a prosperous Egypt and lived to see Nebuchadrezzar die. No Egyptians were scattered or dispersed.
B. Wisdom. The writer is just gushing over all the love and poetry and beauty of the Bible. Is this really accurate? No! The Old Testament is a horrible book of genocide, sacrifices, murder, infanticide, injustice (by God), absurdities and pure, unadulterated evil (by God). This vicious monster commands the mass-murder and enslavement of all neighboring cultures with its brutality even going further than the sensibilities of the Jewish Generals. Not satisfied with the blood and forced labor of these 'children of Noah', this God of Love wets his bloodlust on the lives of innocent Israelis as well. 70,000 innocent Israelis are murdered because a king took a census, the sons of Aaron are murdered over a bad sacrifice, a child is offered as a human sacrifice to this demon god. Anyone who finds beauty in the Old Testament may find Mein Kampf to be a "delightful romp". As far as wisdom? WHERE?!?! As far as law, government, medicine, science, culture, philosophy - we get NOTHING from the Bible! NOTHING! Pagan cultures like Egypt, Greece and Rome actually develop what we use today whereas Israel (like the Aztecs) simply oppressed its populace with a savage theocracy until a better civilization came along and thankfully stomped on them! If the writer is all hot-to-trot over the New Testament and has fallen in love with Matthew 5-7 then I highly recommend a little book called "The Communist Manifesto". Just like Jesus - it's filled with a hatred of capitalism, success, riches and work. Add on pacifism and you have an unworkable society! Certainly no Christian lives his life by the Sermon on the Mount or Jesus' life! Why? Jesus like Marx, was a philosophical failure!
